Oryx Stainless Unveils New Flagship Facility in Johor, Malaysia
According to reports from Oryx Stainless, the company has officially opened its new flagship facility in Johor, Malaysia. The facility, which focuses on the production of high-quality recycled stainless steel raw materials, marks a significant step in advancing the circular economy and green steel initiatives in Southeast Asia.
The grand opening ceremony was attended by approximately 200 distinguished guests, including Yang Amat Berhormat Menteri Besar Johor, Dato’ Onn Hafiz Bin Ghazi, as well as foreign ambassadors and senior officials from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), according to a report on Oryx Stainless’ official website. The opening underscores the company’s commitment to both environmental sustainability and industrial excellence.
As per a statement from Dato’ Onn Hafiz Bin Ghazi, the Johor facility demonstrates how industrial growth and climate action can coexist. He expressed pride in seeing Johor host such a state-of-the-art facility, which he believes will contribute to the region’s economic and sustainable development. “With Oryx Stainless, we are welcoming not only an international leader in green industry – but a true partner in our journey toward sustainable prosperity,” he said.
MIDA’s CEO, Datuk Sikh Shamsul Ibrahim Sikh Abdul Majid, also praised the facility’s opening, noting that the new plant aligns with Malaysia’s efforts to boost sustainable industrial development. According to MIDA, Oryx’s new facility strengthens Johor’s manufacturing capabilities and supports Malaysia’s position in the global circular economy. He highlighted the facility’s potential to create high-skill job opportunities, particularly in the growing green technology sector.
Tobias Kämmer, CEO of Oryx Stainless, stated that the decision to establish the facility in Johor reflects the company’s strategic vision for the region. He noted that Malaysia’s location brings high-quality, low-carbon footprint stainless steel materials closer to major production hubs across Asia. “Our investment in Johor is not only a business decision – it is a commitment to long-term collaboration, green growth, and shared prosperity,” Kämmer added.
Oryx Stainless noted that the facility’s operations will have a significant impact on Malaysia’s green transition. It will contribute to the country’s goal of reducing carbon intensity by 45% per GDP by 2030. The plant is also expected to help attract RM300 billion in green investments, with its recycling processes saving up to 8.5 tonnes of CO₂ per ton of recycled material. According to Oryx Stainless, the facility will reduce emissions by up to 1 million tonnes annually.
The facility is also focused on empowering local talent. Malaysian employees have undergone specialized training, including learning to operate Malaysia's first Sennebogen material handlers. The workforce is set to double by mid-2026, and Oryx has partnered with Malaysian universities to create pathways for students to enter the green technology sector.
According to official sources, the facility will process 150,000 tonnes of stainless steel annually in its first phase, marking a major milestone in Southeast Asia’s push for sustainable manufacturing.
