IPL Schoeller and PureCycle Launch Recycled-Content Container Line

According to company reports, IPL Schoeller and PureCycle Technologies have launched SnapPack Square EVO, a new line of tamper-evident food packaging containers incorporating 20% post-consumer recycled (PCR) polypropylene (PP). The standardized packaging line is designed to provide brand owners and retailers with an off-the-shelf option for meeting emerging recycled-content requirements, including New Jersey’s recycled-content mandate.

The launch expands on the companies’ earlier collaboration with Cleveland Kitchen, a supplier of private-label refrigerated pickle products. That project focused on commercializing a food-contact container incorporating PCR material. The partners have now expanded the concept into a standardized container platform available to brand owners and retailers across multiple product categories.

Each SnapPack Square EVO container will contain 20% PureFive® recycled polypropylene, produced by PureCycle using its proprietary dissolution-based recycling process. PureCycle said PureFive® qualifies as recycled content under New Jersey’s Recycled Content Law and has received APR certification for post-consumer recycled content.

New Jersey currently requires rigid plastic packaging to contain at least 10% post-consumer recycled content. The requirement is scheduled to rise to 20% and expand to food packaging in 2027, with the target increasing to 50% by 2036.

The launch comes as packaging producers face a growing number of state-level recycled-content and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) requirements. California, Oregon and other states are introducing packaging rules covering recycled content, source reduction and recyclability, with several requirements scheduled to take effect between 2027 and 2032.

“Brand owners are being asked to meet recycled content targets on a timeline that a custom packaging program often can’t match,” said Christian Bruey, PureCycle Director of Sustainability and External Affairs. “SnapPack Square EVO gives them a container that already contains PureFive® resin, already performs like the packaging they know, and is already built for the regulatory environment they’re walking into.”

Melissa Vettleson, Sustainability and Materials Engineer at IPL Schoeller, said the Cleveland Kitchen project demonstrated that recycled content could be incorporated without compromising the container’s intended performance. The new standardized line is designed to allow other brands to adopt the material without developing a new package from the beginning.

The SnapPack Square EVO line is expected to become available to brand owners in fall 2026. IPL Schoeller and PureCycle plan to add further sizes and formats as the product range expands.
