Cyclic Materials Opens Commercial-Scale Rare Earth Magnet Recycling Facility in Arizona

Cyclic Materials has opened its first commercial-scale rare earth magnet recycling facility in Mesa, Arizona, with annual processing capacity of up to 25,000 metric tons of magnet-bearing end-of-life products, according to the company. The facility produces Mag-Xtract™, along with recovered copper, aluminum and steel, providing a domestic processing route for magnet-containing materials.

The Mesa facility is the first commercial-scale deployment of Cyclic Materials’ proprietary MagCycle® technology, which uses automated mechanical separation to recover rare earth magnets from end-of-life products. It serves as the front end of the company’s integrated rare earth recovery platform, with further processing designed to recover rare earth materials for use in new manufacturing.

Cyclic Materials said more than 7,000 metric tons of magnet-bearing feedstock have already been delivered to the Mesa facility through commercial supply agreements, with additional volumes secured in its pipeline. Commercial operations are now underway, and the company expects its first commercial shipments to U.S. customers later this month.

The facility was completed 17 months after the project was first announced. Its opening comes as the U.S. expands domestic capacity for recovering critical minerals from end-of-life products. The U.S. Department of Commerce said the Mesa facility is designed to process up to 25,000 metric tons of end-of-life products annually using automated technology to recover rare earth magnets.

Cyclic Materials said the facility will support the recovery of materials used in sectors including automotive, electronics, AI, robotics, energy and defense. A July 2026 Presidential Determination also identified end-of-life rare earth permanent magnets as a source of recoverable critical materials and called for greater domestic recovery and processing capacity.

The company is also developing a rare earth recycling campus in South Carolina that will combine magnet recovery and rare earth refining on one site. In August, Cyclic Materials announced a $75 million strategic financing round to accelerate the development of its U.S. rare earth production infrastructure, bringing total equity funding to $237 million.

Cyclic Materials CEO and Founder Ahmad Ghahreman said the Mesa facility adds domestic capacity for recovering materials from end-of-life products and is part of the company’s broader effort to expand rare earth and critical mineral infrastructure in the U.S.
