Copper Development Association Launches Copper Advocates Program

The Copper Development Association (CDA) has launched Copper Advocates, a nationwide network for individuals, public officials, organizations and companies interested in copper’s role in the U.S. economy, infrastructure and manufacturing, according to the association.

Participation is free and open to industry professionals, skilled tradespeople, engineers, contractors, companies, academic and nonprofit organizations, public-sector leaders and members of the public. Participants will receive updates on policy developments, industry issues and copper’s economic impact, along with access to economic data, fact sheets, reports and other educational resources.

The program will also provide opportunities for participants to take part in specific advocacy activities, which may include signing letters, contacting elected officials, sharing views with policymakers or supporting other actions related to copper policy. Participation in individual advocacy efforts is voluntary. CDA said the network will receive at least two updates each year, with additional communications when emerging issues require more timely engagement.

The launch comes as the U.S. copper industry continues to have a broad economic footprint. According to CDA, the domestic copper industry generates $254 billion in annual economic output, supports more than 576,000 jobs and contributes $22.9 billion annually in federal, state and local tax revenues.

Through its Economic Impact of Copper resource, CDA also provides data on the industry’s economic contribution at the state and local levels, covering manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, service providers and other businesses across the copper value chain.

Adam Estelle, president and CEO of CDA, said many policies affecting copper are shaped at the state and local levels. He said the Copper Advocates network is intended to provide individuals and organizations with a way to stay informed and participate in relevant discussions.

The initiative adds a formal communication channel between CDA and a broader group of stakeholders as policy, infrastructure and industrial issues continue to affect the U.S. copper sector.
