VinFast Auto India, the Indian arm of global EV manufacturer VinFast, has signed a strategic agreement with Indian clean-tech firm BatX Energies to collaborate on high-voltage (HV) battery recycling and repurposing. The move marks a major milestone in building a localized and circular battery value chain in India, aligning with the country’s push for sustainable electric mobility.
According to a joint statement released by both companies, BatX Energies will be responsible for managing the end-of-life treatment of VinFast’s EV batteries through recycling, rare material recovery, and repurposing operations. These processes will recover critical materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel, which will be reintegrated into new battery manufacturing, thereby reducing dependency on virgin mining and minimizing environmental impact.
The partnership, as reported by the companies, goes beyond technical collaboration—it aims to establish long-term infrastructure that supports the circular economy, urban mining, and second-life battery applications. It also includes traceability of raw materials, a growing concern in the global EV supply chain.
“This partnership with BatX Energies is a meaningful step toward building a sustainable, circular battery ecosystem in India,” said Mr. Pham Sanh Chau, CEO of VinFast Asia. “At VinFast, sustainability goes beyond vehicles—it’s about environmental responsibility across the entire lifecycle.”
Echoing the sentiment, BatX Energies CEO Mr. Utkarsh Singh stated, “Our partnership with VinFast reflects a shared belief in responsible innovation and resource circularity. By enabling sustainable end-of-life solutions for EV batteries, we are helping to future-proof India’s EV ecosystem.”
This agreement adds to a series of alliances recently announced by VinFast in India, including partnerships with Global Assure for roadside assistance and myTVS and RoadGrid for after-sales services and charging support. VinFast is also accelerating work at its upcoming Thoothukudi plant and preparing to launch its VF 6 and VF 7 electric SUVs in the Indian market.
