Indorama Ventures Expands Zero-Waste Initiative at Philippine PET Recycling Facility

According to industry reports, Indorama Ventures has launched a Zero Waste to Landfill programme at PETValue Philippines, its PET recycling facility in Cavite, as part of efforts to improve resource recovery and reduce landfill disposal across its recycling operations. The initiative complements the company’s bottle-to-bottle recycling business by finding alternative uses for residual materials generated during the recycling process.

PETValue Philippines, a joint venture between Indorama Ventures and Coca-Cola Europacific Aboitiz Philippines, has partnered with Republic Cement & Building Materials to implement the programme. The collaboration connects the plastics recycling and cement industries, enabling non-recyclable materials from PET processing to be recovered for industrial use instead of being sent to landfill.

The Cavite facility recycles post-consumer PET bottles into food-grade recycled PET (rPET) for new beverage packaging. Under the new programme, bottle caps and labels that cannot be processed through conventional PET recycling are collected by ecoloop, Republic Cement's resource recovery business, and used as alternative fuel in cement manufacturing.

The initiative forms part of Indorama Ventures’ broader PET recycling strategy under its IndoNova business, which focuses on converting used PET bottles into food-grade recycled resin while improving material recovery throughout the recycling chain.

Angela Edralin-Valencia, Director of ecoloop, said the partnership demonstrates how cross-sector collaboration can increase resource recovery while reducing dependence on landfill disposal.

“We help our partners recover value from waste while reducing landfill dependency. This partnership with PETValue is a strong example of circularity in action,” she said.

Indorama Ventures entered the PET recycling sector in 2011 and said it has recycled nearly 180 billion post-consumer PET bottles to date. The company currently processes more than 700 PET bottles per second through its global recycling operations.

The latest initiative follows the company’s continued investment in recycling infrastructure. In March, Indorama Ventures, Nigerian Breweries and Genesis Power & Energy Solutions announced plans to establish a food-grade rPET facility in Lagos, Nigeria, with an annual production capacity of up to 45,000 tonnes. The plant is expected to begin operations in the first half of 2027.
