InterPro Acquires K&K Prairie Recycling Services to Expand Scrap Supply for Domestic Steel Production

InterPro Recycling, a division of InterPro Pipe & Steel, has completed the acquisition of K&K Prairie Recycling Services, a scrap metal recycling company based in Camrose, Alberta. The acquisition is expected to strengthen InterPro’s scrap supply chain, expand its presence in the Alberta recycling market and support future growth of its integrated recycling-to-steel operations serving Canada’s energy sector.

K&K Prairie Recycling Services provides ferrous and non-ferrous scrap recycling services across Western Canada, including scrap processing, remote processing, decommissioning, torching, brokerage and material marketing. The company will become part of InterPro’s broader recycling and steel production platform based in Regina, Saskatchewan.

InterPro operates what it describes as Canada’s only fully domestic melted-and-poured steel production platform for tubular steel used in the energy sector. By bringing K&K’s recycling operations into its supply network, InterPro aims to improve access to locally sourced scrap materials and enhance supply chain reliability for its steel manufacturing activities.

K&K Prairie Recycling Services was founded in 2010 by Kevin Morgan and developed into an independent metal recycler serving industrial, commercial, municipal and public-sector customers across Alberta and Saskatchewan. In 2017, the company acquired Prairie Recycling Services, an Alberta recycler founded by Tony Thomsen, combining two established recycling operations and expanding its regional capabilities.

The company has invested in equipment, personnel and customer relationships to build its position in Western Canada’s scrap recycling sector. Its operations include the recovery and processing of recyclable metals from various sources, supporting domestic material flows for downstream manufacturing.

Following the acquisition, K&K Prairie Recycling Services will operate as InterPro Prairie Recycling Inc. Tony Thomsen will continue to lead the business, maintaining operational continuity for customers, suppliers and employees. Kevin Morgan will remain involved as an advisor to InterPro Recycling.

The acquisition reflects continued efforts by steel producers to secure domestic scrap supplies as demand grows for localized material sourcing and more resilient industrial supply chains. For InterPro, the addition of recycling capacity supports its strategy of integrating scrap recovery with steel production for the Canadian energy market.
