PureCycle Secures EU REACH Certification, Opening European Market for PureFive™ Resin

According to a recent announcement from PureCycle Technologies, Inc., the company has received the REACH Certificate of Compliance, officially allowing it to sell its PureFive™ recycled polypropylene resin across the European Union. The certification marks an important regulatory milestone for the U.S.-based recycling innovator and expands its access to the European market.

The REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals) certification confirms that PureCycle’s materials comply with the European Union’s stringent requirements designed to protect human health and the environment. According to the announcement, every substance used in making a product needs to be registered under REACH when the production volume of that product exceeds one ton per year, which also applies in Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway.

It is understood that this certification clears the path for PureCycle to strengthen its European presence and accelerate the deployment of its proprietary dissolution recycling technology, which transforms used polypropylene into near-virgin quality resin. Wiebe Schipper, Vice President of European and Asia Pacific Operations at PureCycle, said the achievement “will allow us to put future orders of our high-quality recycled polypropylene into the hands of these potential customers, allowing them to try our products before our European production starts in 2028.”

According to company plans, PureCycle’s first European plant will be constructed at the Port of Antwerp in Belgium, a strategic location chosen to facilitate logistics and distribution across the continent. The facility is expected to be completed by mid-2028.

As reported, PureCycle’s flagship Ironton, Ohio facility—brought online in 2023—has already proven the company’s technology by successfully producing PureFive™ resin for applications in food packaging, automotive parts, and textiles. This operational success in the U.S. is expected to serve as a model for its upcoming European site.

Industry observers note that PureCycle’s REACH certification comes at a pivotal time, as Europe moves to tighten plastic recycling mandates under the EU Circular Economy Action Plan and the forthcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). Analysts predict that demand for high-quality recycled polypropylene will rise significantly as manufacturers seek sustainable materials to meet regulatory and corporate environmental targets.

According to market analysts, this approval positions PureCycle as a key contributor to Europe’s transition toward a circular plastics economy, aligning with the continent’s broader decarbonization goals. The certification not only strengthens the company’s competitive edge in the global recycling market but also supports Europe’s long-term efforts to reduce dependence on virgin plastics.
