International Paper Acquires Delaware Converting Facility from Delmarva Corrugated Packaging

International Paper has acquired a corrugated packaging converting facility from Delmarva Corrugated Packaging in Dover, Delaware, expanding its packaging production footprint in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic region.
The company said the acquisition will strengthen its regional manufacturing and distribution capabilities while increasing capacity for sustainable corrugated packaging products. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
The Dover facility serves a regional customer base across the packaging sector and provides International Paper with additional converting capacity in a strategically located logistics corridor.
International Paper said the acquisition supports its broader growth strategy within Packaging Solutions North America, where the company has been focusing on expanding service capabilities and strengthening supply reliability for customers.
“This acquisition strengthens our footprint in the region and supports our long-term growth strategy,” said Tom Hamic, executive vice president and president of Packaging Solutions North America at International Paper. “The Dover facility’s customer base and location expand our ability to deliver packaging solutions with greater speed and reliability.”
Corrugated converting facilities process containerboard into finished packaging products used across food, consumer goods, industrial and e-commerce supply chains. Demand for corrugated packaging has remained closely tied to shifts in retail distribution, shipping volumes and sustainability requirements.
Delmarva Corrugated Packaging said International Paper was well-positioned to further develop the operation and support future business growth.
“We are extremely pleased to see IP step into ownership of the Delmarva Corrugated assets,” said Dennis Mehiel, president and chief executive officer of Delmarva Corrugated Packaging. “We believe the transaction will support the long-term success of the Dover operation and its stakeholders.”
The acquisition continues ongoing consolidation and regional expansion activity across the North American corrugated packaging sector, where large producers have been investing in converting assets to improve proximity to customers and strengthen integrated packaging networks.
Packaging manufacturers have also increasingly emphasized recyclable fibre-based packaging solutions as retailers and consumer brands seek alternatives to harder-to-recycle materials.
International Paper described the transaction as part of its effort to create long-term value for customers, shareholders and employees through targeted packaging investments and operational expansion.
