Glass Recycling Coalition and Glass Recycling Foundation Unite to Strengthen U.S. Circular Economy

According to an official statement released this week, the Glass Recycling Coalition (GRC) and the Glass Recycling Foundation (GRF) have merged into a single organization operating under the Glass Recycling Foundation name. The consolidation aims to streamline resources, align leadership, and accelerate national progress in glass recycling.
As reported by the Foundation, the merger integrates both organizations’ expertise, programs, and funding initiatives, making it easier for local communities, recycling coordinators, and material recovery facilities (MRFs) to access grants, technical assistance, and data tools that support glass recovery efforts across the United States.
“By bringing our organizations together, we can unlock that value more effectively—scaling projects, improving material quality, and ensuring communities have the tools they need to recycle more glass,” said Scott DeFife, President of the Glass Recycling Foundation.
It is understood that the unified structure will enhance fundraising capabilities, consolidate communications, and streamline grantmaking to strengthen local recycling infrastructure. A joint leadership team, formed from both GRC and GRF representatives, will oversee the Foundation’s expanded project portfolio, including the MRF certification program and new data-driven initiatives.
According to industry sources, all existing grants and active projects will continue without disruption, and the Foundation’s mission to strengthen U.S. glass recycling and divert recyclable glass from landfills remains unchanged. “The coalition and foundation have always been driven by the same vision,” DeFife added. “Now, under one name, we can cut duplication, amplify what works, and extend the reach of initiatives already making a difference.”
Analysts note that the merger reflects a growing trend in the U.S. recycling sector, where collaboration and operational efficiency are increasingly seen as key to achieving circular economy goals. As policies at both federal and state levels encourage sustainable materials management, initiatives like this merger are expected to support stronger recycling markets and more resilient supply chains.
All future updates, events, and resources will now be released through GRF’s website and communications channels, according to the announcement.
