Loop Industries and Taro Plast Partner on 100% Recycled DMT Supply

September 18, 2025

Loop Industries has reached a supply agreement with Italy-based Taro Plast S.p.A. to provide Loop™ dimethyl terephthalate (DMT) produced entirely from recycled materials. According to a joint announcement released by the two companies, this is the first time Loop’s recycled DMT will be incorporated into high-performance thermoplastic compounds, signaling a breakthrough for the specialty polymers market.

It is reported that the recycled DMT will be manufactured at the planned Infinite Loop™ India plant, a joint venture with Ester Industries, scheduled to start operations in early 2028. The facility is designed to produce around 70,000 tonnes of PET resin per year for packaging and textiles, while also offering recycled DMT for specialty applications. Industry analysts said the additional product offering not only diversifies Loop’s portfolio but also reflects the growing global demand for chemically recycled feedstocks.

According to testing conducted by Taro Plast, the purity and performance of Loop™ DMT meet the requirements for advanced applications, making Taro Plast the first company to formally integrate the material into its product lines. It is reported that the recycled DMT will be used to produce high-performance compounds for the automotive and specialty polymer industries.

“This is a very important moment for the industry looking for reliable solutions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by replacing fossil feedstock in the manufacturing of plastic goods,” said Andrea Squeri, Managing Director of Taro Plast. Loop’s Chief Revenue Officer Giovanni Catino was quoted as saying that the partnership “sets a new benchmark for integrating recycled content and reducing the carbon footprint of specialty polymers without compromising performance or quality.”

Industry observers note that the agreement comes as Europe moves to tighten regulations aimed at boosting the share of recycled content in plastics. According to reports, measures under discussion, including the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), are expected to create stronger demand for chemically recycled feedstocks. Analysts suggest that partnerships of this kind could help packaging, textile, and automotive brands align with regulatory trends while responding to consumer expectations for more sustainable products.

Industry sources further indicate that the deal reflects a broader shift in chemical recycling, moving beyond PET bottles and fibers toward higher-value applications. As Infinite Loop™ India advances toward its planned launch, the collaboration between Loop and Taro Plast may be viewed as a reference point for how such initiatives can support circular economy practices in the specialty polymers sector.
