Livium Extends Battery Recycling Partnership with LG Energy Solution to 2029
According to an announcement by Livium Ltd, its recycling subsidiary Envirostream Australia has signed an amended agreement with LG Energy Solution to continue processing lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) in Australia. It is reported that the contract, originally expanded in March 2024, has now been extended to March 2029 and broadened in scope to include end-of-life residential battery units collected for general service reasons.
Under the new agreement, Livium confirmed that previous terms remain in place, including exclusivity on recalled residential batteries, while expanding to cover non-exclusive residential units retired for normal service reasons. The announcement also noted that the deal guarantees consistent processing volumes for Envirostream and grants LG Energy Solution the option to acquire black mass at market rates.
Simon Linge, CEO and Managing Director of Livium, noted that the extended partnership affirms Envirostream’s role in Australia’s circular economy. “By extending and expanding our successful relationship with a global leader like LG Energy Solution, we are not only securing a consistent, high-value supply of large-format batteries but also cementing our position as the go-to battery recycling partner in Australia,” he said.
Philip Crotty, Managing Director of LG Energy Solution Australia, emphasized the shared sustainability goals of the two companies. “This renewed agreement not only reflects the trust and shared commitment between our organisations, but also paves the way for even greater cooperation in the years ahead,” he commented.
Industry analysts observed that the deal positions Envirostream to benefit from rising demand in electric vehicle (EV) and energy storage system (ESS) recycling markets. Reports forecast significant growth in lithium-ion battery recycling through the remainder of the decade, driven by the rapid adoption of EVs and renewable energy infrastructure. By securing long-term partnerships, Envirostream is expected to gain momentum in attracting additional clients in the sector.
The agreement is regarded as part of a broader global trend in which battery manufacturers and recyclers are forming long-term alliances to ensure secure supply chains for critical minerals while meeting ESG and circular economy objectives.
