Geared for GREEN Joins Flexible Film Recycling Alliance to Boost Circular Plastics Efforts

September 20, 2025

According to a recent announcement, Geared for GREEN has officially become a member of the Flexible Film Recycling Alliance (FFRA), an initiative under the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS) dedicated to expanding recycling pathways for plastic films such as bags, wraps, and polyethylene packaging.

By joining FFRA, Geared for GREEN reinforces its strategy to advance a circular economy and work with industry peers to make recycling more efficient and widely accessible. The company will contribute expertise in digital traceability, blockchain-enabled transparency, carbon monetization, and consumer incentive tools to accelerate the adoption of circular solutions.

“Our company is dedicated to advancing plastics circularity by innovating beyond linear, transactional recycling and creating untapped supply chain value via the circular economy. Joining the Flexible Film Recycling Alliance is a natural step in our efforts to support and improve plastic film recycling,” said Daniel Schrager, CEO of Geared for GREEN.

From the association side, Patrick Krieger, Senior Vice President of Sustainability and Policy at PLASTICS, emphasized that FFRA aims to “increase awareness, access, and trust in plastic film recycling programs,” noting that members like Geared for GREEN play a vital role in driving progress.

As part of its membership, Geared for GREEN said that it will support FFRA initiatives including the recently launched Plastic Film Recycling Directory, a tool helping municipalities, businesses, and consumers identify facilities that accept flexible films. The company also plans to highlight case studies at industry events, ranging from plastic bag-to-product circularity in furniture and fixtures to advanced recycling technologies.

Flexible plastics, while lightweight and versatile, have historically faced low recovery rates due to collection and processing challenges. However, policy shifts in North America and Europe are pushing for greater producer responsibility and expanded recycling access. Analysts note that collaborative initiatives such as FFRA could accelerate market transformation, providing both environmental benefits and new material supply streams for manufacturers.

As sustainability moves higher on corporate and regulatory agendas, industry experts suggest that partnerships like this could help bridge gaps between policy ambition and practical recycling outcomes.
