FIXIT GRUPPE Standardizes European Paper Bag Portfolio with Mondi

FIXIT GRUPPE, a European supplier of building materials, has worked with Mondi to standardize its paper bag packaging portfolio across European markets, covering more than 100 building material products. The project is designed to simplify packaging formats, maintain product protection and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, with reported annual savings of 135 tonnes of CO₂ compared with the previous year.
FIXIT GRUPPE supplies a broad range of building materials to DIY retailers across Europe. Differences in product requirements, climate conditions and local regulations had led to a fragmented portfolio of paper bag grades and formats. The company sought to reduce this complexity while maintaining compatibility with its existing filling equipment and meeting its sustainability targets.
Mondi conducted an audit at its Bag Application Centre in Frantschach, Austria, assessing factors including paper grammage, barrier requirements and the thickness of plastic inner layers. Based on the findings, the two companies developed a standardized portfolio of paper valve bags covering the requirements of different building materials and European markets.
Mondi supplied sack kraft paper from its own mills and converted it into paper valve bags designed to provide moisture protection and reliable filling performance. The bags were also assessed under the 4evergreen fibre-based packaging recyclability evaluation protocol.
The standardized approach gives FIXIT GRUPPE a more consistent packaging system across its European operations while reducing the number of formats and grades that need to be managed. The company said the revised portfolio maintains the protection and performance required for its products while supporting resource-efficiency objectives.
“This project shows how we help customers solve complex packaging challenges while reducing environmental impact,” said Davide Battiston, International Key Account Manager at Mondi Paper Bags Italy. He said the assessment of FIXIT GRUPPE’s product range enabled the companies to develop a standardized solution without compromising packaging performance.
Bernhard Zott, Director of Research & Development at FIXIT GRUPPE, said the company needed packaging that could protect different building materials while remaining practical for use on construction sites and supporting its climate strategy.
The project resulted in a unified paper bag portfolio for more than 100 products and a reported reduction of 135 tonnes of CO₂ emissions per year compared with the previous year.
