Evertis Partners with Honeywell to Enhance Pharmaceutical Packaging with Aclar® Technology

June 11, 2025

According to a recent announcement from Honeywell, Evertis, a leading global producer of packaging films, has selected Honeywell’s Aclar® barrier films to enhance its pharmaceutical packaging solutions under the Evercare brand. The collaboration is expected to support global efforts in ensuring secure packaging for life-saving medications, while also driving forward the industry’s shift towards more sustainable, recyclable packaging materials.

According to Honeywell’s official website, Aclar® is a medical-grade material known for its excellent moisture barrier properties. The technology is designed to help protect the stability and efficacy of both prescription and over-the-counter medications. This is achieved by providing superior moisture protection, which can help extend the shelf life of medicines and reduce waste in the pharmaceutical industry. Furthermore, Aclar® films are produced using unique techniques that make them easier to separate and recycle, aligning with the increasing push for environmentally-friendly packaging solutions.

Through its Evercare brand, Evertis intends to incorporate Aclar® films into the development of medical-grade PET (polyethylene terephthalate) packaging. PET packaging is widely used in many industries due to its lightweight and versatile nature, and the introduction of Aclar® into PET packaging is expected to bring numerous benefits, including manufacturing process optimization, reduced production costs, and new, sustainable packaging options for the pharmaceutical sector.

In a statement, Casimiro Sacchetti, Chief Sustainability Officer at Evertis Americas, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “By combining Evertis’ superior PET film and lamination expertise with Honeywell’s unique Aclar® barrier technology, we are now able to offer the pharmaceutical industry premium PET-based films with outstanding thermoforming, sealing, and optical properties—while also meeting sustainability credentials.”

Honeywell’s Aclar® films have been in use for over 50 years in the pharmaceutical industry, providing crucial protection for sensitive medications. According to Jeff Dormo, President of Sustainability and Decarbonization at Honeywell, the collaboration is aligned with the company’s mission to promote safe and effective drug packaging. He noted, “This partnership enables us to provide premium packaging materials that support better patient outcomes through safe and effective drug packaging.”

The first Aclar®-based PET packaging products are expected to reach the market by 2025. Additionally, Honeywell is set to spin off its Advanced Materials business, including the Aclar® technology, into a new independent company named Solstice Advanced Materials. According to the company, this spin-off is scheduled for early 2026, and the new company will be headquartered in Morris Plains, New Jersey, focusing on chemical and material innovations across sectors such as pharmaceuticals, refrigerants, and semiconductor components.
