ERI and ReElement Technologies Strengthen U.S. Rare Earth Supply Through Strategic Partnership

According to reports from ERI and ReElement Technologies, the companies have entered a strategic processing agreement to recycle and refine rare earth elements (REEs), aiming to secure a reliable domestic supply for advanced technology, defense, and mobility sectors.

ERI, the nation’s leading electronics recycler, will leverage its extensive U.S. network of recycling centers and international collection capabilities to gather and pre-process end-of-life magnet materials. ReElement Technologies, a portfolio company of American Resources Corporation, will reportedly refine these materials into high-purity rare earth oxides, providing a domestically sourced supply of critical minerals.

Sources indicate that the partnership combines ERI’s scale in electronics recycling with ReElement’s modular refining platform, creating a circular supply chain for rare earth elements amid rising strategic importance. ReElement has begun trial shipments of 99.99%+ pure rare earth oxides to qualified commercial and defense clients, while preparing to expand production from its Noblesville facility to a 400,000-square-foot complex in Marion, Indiana, by early 2026.

According to ERI, the company employs advanced AI-driven software and hardware to detect and extract magnet materials with high purity levels, ensuring maximum recovery of critical rare earth elements. This technology enables precise identification and processing of REE-containing components across diverse electronics streams.

Mark Jensen, Chairman and CEO of ReElement Technologies, commented, “Pairing ERI’s feedstock capabilities with ReElement’s advanced refining platform positions us to accelerate true circularity for critical minerals in the United States.” ERI CEO John Shegerian added, “This new relationship will open the door for a whole new wave of U.S.-based capabilities in the rare earth sector that will have both domestic and global implications,” according to company reports.

Industry analysts note that the U.S. has long relied on foreign imports for rare earth elements, which are essential for batteries, electronics, renewable energy, and defense technologies. Recent supply chain concerns and geopolitical tensions have underscored the need for domestic sourcing. By integrating recycling with high-precision refining, the partnership reportedly addresses both sustainability and national security, potentially reducing dependence on imported REEs while promoting circular economy principles in technology and mobility sectors.

Observers view this collaboration as a significant step toward domestic self-sufficiency in rare earth elements, establishing a scalable, circular supply chain that could influence U.S. technology industries and global markets.
