EGA to Expand Minnesota Recycling Plant, Strengthening U.S. Aluminium Supply Chain

October 21, 2025

According to a recent announcement from Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA), the company plans to further expand its EGA Spectro Alloys recycling facility in Minnesota, bringing the plant’s total annual capacity to 200,000 tonnes. The project marks another significant step in strengthening EGA’s manufacturing footprint in the United States and advancing the company’s low-carbon aluminium strategy.

It is reported that the new phase of expansion will add an additional 45,000 tonnes of recycled billet capacity through the installation of a new scrap melting furnace and a batch homogeniser. Construction is expected to be completed in 2027, following the first expansion phase — finished in July this year — which delivered 55,000 tonnes of extra capacity and is currently ramping up production.

According to EGA, the recycled aluminium produced at the Minnesota site will continue to be marketed under its RevivAL brand, a product line developed to meet the growing demand for sustainable and circular metal solutions across the global supply chain.

EGA’s Chief Executive Officer, Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, said the latest investment “is another important step in growing our production in the United States, where there is strong demand for both primary and recycled EGA-quality metal made in America.”

According to data from CRU, a business intelligence organisation specialising in metals and mining, demand for recycled aluminium in the United States is projected to reach 8 million tonnes per year by 2034. The U.S. currently ranks as the world’s second-largest market for recycled aluminium, reflecting a nationwide trend toward domestic recycling and reduced dependence on imported primary metal.

Industry observers noted that EGA’s expansion aligns with a broader push among American manufacturers to secure sustainable material sources amid stricter environmental regulations. It is reported that the company is also preparing to develop the first new primary aluminium smelter in the U.S. since 1980, located in Oklahoma, with a planned capacity of 600,000 tonnes per year—a move that would nearly double the nation’s current aluminium output.

In addition, EGA is building the UAE’s largest aluminium recycling facility in Al Taweelah, which will produce 100,000 tonnes of billets and 84,000 tonnes of T-bars annually, with production scheduled to start in the first quarter of 2026, according to the company’s statement.

Analysts believe the expansion of EGA Spectro Alloys demonstrates the company’s strategic commitment to the circular economy and the growing importance of sustainable metals in sectors such as automotive and construction. The move also strengthens EGA’s position in the North American market while contributing to both U.S. and UAE decarbonisation goals.
