Coveris Winsford Gains Dual RecyClass Certifications

Coveris Winsford has secured two Level 2 RecyClass certifications, a development that, according to industry reports, places the UK facility among Europe’s most rigorously verified recycling and traceability operations.
According to information released by the company, the site was awarded both the RecyClass Recycling Process Certificate and the Recycled Plastics Traceability Certificate after meeting all mandatory and optional audit requirements. It is understood that the dual achievement confirms the site’s capability to convert post-industrial and post-consumer plastic waste into certified recycled material while documenting every stage of its journey from raw input to finished packaging. According to RecyClass, the Traceability Certificate is granted only when recycled inputs come from an audited and compliant recycling process, either certified under the RecyClass Recycling Process scheme or an equivalent programme aligned with EN 15343 and ISO 22095 principles.
Industry sources noted that the certifications allow Coveris Winsford to operate under a fully validated chain-of-custody framework, offering manufacturers and brand owners independently verified data on recycled content levels. The company said this framework responds directly to customer requests for clearer documentation of how recycled materials are sourced, processed, and integrated into new packaging formats.
According to a statement from Sujoy Bose, Managing Director at Coveris Winsford, the recognitions “confirm the integrity of our recycling and traceability processes” and reinforce the company’s position in high-performance flexible packaging. Quality Improvement Manager Sarah Willis added that third-party audits provide “continuous improvement as procedures and quality systems are reviewed year after year.”
Analysts say the certifications arrive at a critical moment for the sector. With the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) having entered into force on 11 February 2025, and the UK already enforcing its Plastic Packaging Tax, the need for credible, independently verified recycled content data continues to grow. Industry observers also point out that the surge in demand for certified recycled polymers is pushing more converters and manufacturers to pursue RecyClass approvals to maintain compliance and meet brand-owner expectations. According to the company, several additional Coveris sites across Europe plan to pursue similar certifications in the coming year.
The dual Level 2 certifications represent a strengthened, fully verified recycling capability that supports both regulatory requirements and Europe’s broader transition toward measurable circularity.
