Amcor Gains RecyClass Certification for Bontite® Stretch Films

According to company reports, Amcor has secured RecyClass Recycled Plastics Traceability Certification (EN15343) for selected specifications of its Bontite® Sustane stretch films, confirming the traceability of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content used in the products. The certification supports customers preparing for changes to the UK Plastic Packaging recycled content.

The certified Bontite® Sustane films are manufactured at Amcor facilities in Leominster, United Kingdom, and Zele, Belgium. The blown linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) stretch films are designed for pallet protection and load stabilization during transportation, serving industries including beverage, manufacturing, retail and consumer goods.

Bontite® stretch films combine the mechanical strength of blown film with the transparency typically associated with cast film. Depending on the specification, the films provide high holding force, puncture resistance and stretch performance, allowing customers to optimize wrapping efficiency and improve load security.

The RecyClass certification verifies that recycled plastics used in the finished films are independently audited and traceable throughout the production process. Under upcoming UK PPT rules, recycled content requirements will change from April 2027, with pre-consumer recycled (PIR) material no longer qualifying toward the required 30% recycled content threshold. Only post-consumer recycled (PCR) content will be recognized.

The certification also reflects broader regulatory developments across Europe, where Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) schemes, national packaging taxes and the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) are increasing demand for accurate recycled-content reporting and supply chain transparency.

For companies operating high-volume distribution networks, verified PCR content provides additional documentation for sustainability reporting while maintaining packaging performance requirements. Amcor said independent certification helps customers demonstrate the reliability of recycled-content claims and reduce potential compliance risks.

Beyond Bontite® Sustane, Amcor has also obtained RecyClass certification for flexible packaging solutions produced at its UK sites in Ardeer, Bromborough and Winsford. Additional certifications at facilities in Steinfeld, Germany; Hardenberg, Netherlands; Roeselare, Belgium; and Zdzieszowice, Poland expand the company’s verified recycled-content packaging portfolio across Europe.
