Aduro Clean Technologies Joins Chemical Recycling Europe

Canada-based Aduro Clean Technologies has joined Chemical Recycling Europe (CRE), a move that aligns with the company’s efforts to advance chemical recycling technologies and expand its presence in the European market. The membership provides Aduro with direct engagement in policy discussions and industry initiatives shaping the development of advanced recycling across the region.

Chemical Recycling Europe brings together stakeholders from across the plastics and chemicals value chain to support the scaling of chemical recycling through regulatory alignment, certification systems, and market development. The organization plays a role in advancing methodologies such as mass balance accounting, lifecycle assessment frameworks, and certification standards, while working with policymakers to define how chemical recycling contributes to circular economy objectives.

Aduro’s participation comes as it progresses the development of its first industrial-scale facility in Europe. The company has completed site selection for its first-of-a-kind (FOAK) plant, which is planned to be located at the Chemelot Industrial Park in the Netherlands. Project development activities are ongoing, including advancement of a technology licensing package, initial offtake discussions, and continued work at its Next Generation Process pilot plant to support scale-up.

The company’s technology, known as Hydrochemolytic™ Technology (HCT), is designed to convert lower-value feedstocks, including waste plastics and other hydrocarbon-based materials, into usable resources. The process aims to integrate with existing petrochemical infrastructure, enabling outputs to be further processed through established pathways such as steam cracking. This compatibility is intended to facilitate industrial adoption and support circular feedstock supply chains.

The timing of Aduro’s membership reflects growing regulatory momentum in Europe, particularly with the development of the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR). The regulation is expected to increase demand for certified recycled content in packaging, placing greater importance on verification systems and standardized methodologies. Industry groups such as CRE are increasingly influential in shaping these frameworks, which are critical for the commercial deployment of chemical recycling technologies.

From a strategic perspective, joining CRE allows Aduro to participate in discussions that will influence how chemical recycling is defined, measured, and implemented at scale in Europe. It also provides access to a network of producers, recyclers, and downstream users working to establish circular supply chains for plastics and other materials.

The development highlights broader industry efforts to transition chemical recycling from pilot-stage innovation to industrial deployment, supported by evolving policy frameworks and collaboration across the value chain.
