AISI: U.S. Steel Shipments Rise in September

According to a recent report from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), U.S. steel mills shipped 8.03 million net tons of steel in September 2025, marking a 3.5% increase from August and a notable 12.4% rise compared with September 2024.
AISI data further shows that shipments from January to September 2025 reached 68.73 million net tons, up 4.6% from the same period last year. Among product categories, corrosion-resistant sheet and strip rose by 4%, while hot-rolled and cold-rolled products declined by 1% and 4%, respectively—reflecting shifts in market preferences and continued cost pressures across certain product lines.
The recent rise in shipments appears consistent with broader trends of U.S. manufacturing resilience and ongoing federal infrastructure investment. However, analysts note that global steel markets remain sensitive to energy prices, trade policies, and import competition—factors that could influence shipment volumes heading into early 2026.
As sustainability goals gain traction, American steelmakers are also expected to ramp up low-carbon production technologies to meet new environmental standards and attract green investment, further shaping the industry’s long-term competitiveness.
