AISI: U.S. Steel Shipments Fall 3.7% in July but Rise 5.3% Year to Date

U.S. steel mill shipments totaled 8.22 million net tons in July 2026, down 3.7% from June but up 5.4% from the same month last year, according to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI). The July decline followed shipments of 8.54 million net tons in June.

AISI reported that steel mills shipped 8,219,540 net tons in July, compared with 7,797,929 net tons in July 2025. Despite the monthly decline, shipments for the first seven months of 2026 reached 55,746,641 net tons, 5.3% higher than the 52,937,508 net tons shipped during the same period in 2025.

Growth was recorded across several major flat steel product categories during the first seven months of the year. Corrosion-resistant sheet and strip shipments increased 13% from the same period in 2025, while hot-rolled sheet and strip shipments rose 8%. Cold-rolled sheet and strip shipments were up 0.1%.

The latest figures indicate that while U.S. mill shipments moderated on a month-to-month basis in July, cumulative shipments remained above 2025 levels through the first seven months of the year.
