AISI: U.S. Steel Mill Shipments Rise 4.8% in June

U.S. steel mills shipped 8.54 million net tons of steel in June 2026, up 4.8% from May shipments and 8.7% higher than the same month a year earlier, according to data released by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) on August 4. Year-to-date shipments through June reached 47.53 million net tons, representing a 5.3% increase compared with the same period in 2025.

AISI reported that steel shipments in June 2026 totaled 8,536,500 net tons, compared with 8,141,900 net tons in May 2026. Shipments in June 2025 were 7,854,290 net tons.

The first six months of 2026 showed growth across several major flat-rolled steel categories. Corrosion-resistant sheet and strip shipments increased 14% year over year, while hot-rolled sheet and strip shipments rose 8%. Cold-rolled sheet and strip shipments remained unchanged compared with the first half of 2025.

The shipment growth reflects steady demand across key steel-consuming sectors, including construction, manufacturing and industrial applications. Higher domestic mill shipments also indicate continued activity in the U.S. steel market amid ongoing efforts to strengthen domestic production capacity and supply chains.

AISI’s shipment data tracks deliveries from U.S. steel producers and provides an indicator of market activity for finished steel products. The figures include shipments of carbon and alloy steel products from domestic mills.
