Syre Expands Target Collaboration to Scale Textile-to-Textile Recycled Polyester

May 13, 2026

Syre has expanded its partnership with Target to increase the use of textile-to-textile recycled polyester across large-volume retail categories including apparel and home products.

The collaboration is focused on integrating recycled polyester derived from end-of-life textiles into Target’s product supply chain, part of broader efforts by retailers and brands to reduce dependence on virgin synthetic fibres.

Syre, which specializes in textile recycling technologies aimed at recovering polyester from post-consumer textiles, said the partnership could support the use of approximately 70,000 metric tonnes of recycled polyester over time. The company expects more significant product integration by 2030.

The agreement expands an existing relationship between the companies as Syre works to commercialise large-scale textile recycling infrastructure. The company is currently planning its first industrial-scale recycling facility in Southeast Asia, with construction expected to begin in 2027.

“We couldn’t be more proud to continue working with Target to bring next-generation materials into retail at scale,” said Dennis Nobelius, CEO of Syre. “This collaboration helps accelerate adoption and supports the continued development of circular textile solutions across the industry.”

Target said the initiative aligns with efforts to strengthen sourcing strategies while maintaining product quality and pricing standards for consumers.

“By advancing textile-to-textile recycled polyester at scale, we’re strengthening our supply chain and continuing to offer quality products at a great value,” said Stephanie Grotta, vice president of responsible sourcing and sustainable capabilities at Target.

The partnership reflects growing interest among global apparel and retail companies in securing long-term access to recycled textile feedstocks as pressure increases to reduce textile waste and lower emissions associated with virgin polyester production.

Syre has been building a network of commercial partners as it prepares to scale production capacity, with existing collaborations involving brands including H&M Group and Nike.

Textile-to-textile recycling remains an emerging segment within the broader recycling market, with companies working to address challenges related to feedstock availability, fibre quality consistency and commercial-scale processing economics.

Retailers and apparel brands have increasingly been pursuing circular material strategies amid tightening sustainability targets, upcoming textile waste regulations in several markets and growing scrutiny over synthetic fibre waste.
