Saica Group Expands U.S. Presence with $110 Million Corrugated Packaging Investment in Indiana

According to an official release from Saica Group, the Spain-based recycled paper and packaging leader has broken ground on a new corrugated manufacturing facility in Anderson, Indiana, marking its second Saica Pack plant in the United States. The company is investing more than $110 million in the project, which represents a major step in its plan to expand its footprint across North America.
It is reported that the groundbreaking ceremony brought together several state and local representatives. Among the attendees were Indiana Secretary of Commerce David J. Adams, former State Senator Tim Lanane—representing the Mayor of Anderson—and Rob Sparks, Executive Director of the Madison County Economic Development Corporation. Representatives from Miller Valentine Construction, CSX, FM Global, and other key partners also joined the event.
According to Susana Alejandro, President and CEO of Saica Group, the new facility demonstrates the company’s strong commitment to the U.S. market and to long-term growth. “This investment is proof that we are moving forward with our plans in the U.S. as we are convinced that we can provide products that will differentiate us in a crowded market,” she said, emphasizing the company’s focus on lightweight, high-performance, and resource-efficient packaging solutions.
It is reported that operations at the new 350,000-square-foot factory are scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026, with hiring for management and technical positions set to start later this year. Within the first two years, Saica expects to create more than 50 full-time jobs, potentially reaching over 100 positions once the plant operates at full capacity.
According to information released by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), the state has committed up to $2 million in performance-based tax credits, $150,000 in workforce training grants, and $300,000 in infrastructure incentives to support Saica’s new investment. These incentives are contingent upon job creation and reflect Indiana’s broader effort to attract advanced and sustainable manufacturing operations.
Sources said the Anderson facility will also serve as a strategic backup site for Saica’s existing U.S. plant in Hamilton, Ohio, helping to strengthen supply chain security. The location’s rail connectivity will reduce transport emissions by minimizing the need for truck shipments of paper rolls. Once operational, the site is expected to produce more than 1.2 million MSF of corrugated packaging annually.
Founded in 1943, Saica Group is one of Europe’s largest producers of recycled paper for corrugated packaging. The company employs over 12,000 people worldwide and reported $3.96 billion in consolidated sales for 2024. According to company plans, Saica aims to invest around $800 million in the U.S. market over the next few years, underscoring its intention to become a long-term player in the region.
Industry analysts note that the investment aligns with the growing demand for sustainable and lightweight packaging, particularly as U.S. retailers and manufacturers transition toward circular economy models. The Midwest, with its skilled workforce and logistical advantages, continues to emerge as a preferred hub for such industrial expansions.
Representing the Anderson City Mayor, Tim Lanane commented, “We are excited to welcome Saica to this area. Saica will be a great asset to Anderson’s advanced manufacturing network.”
According to reports, the Anderson project will not only benefit Saica through proximity to customers and efficient logistics but also provide strong economic and environmental gains for the local community. The investment is widely seen as a win-win for both the company and the state of Indiana.
