RecycLiCo and Lucid Join Forces in U.S. Critical Minerals Alliance
According to a recent announcement, Canadian battery materials innovator RecycLiCo Battery Materials Inc. has joined forces with American EV manufacturer Lucid Group, Inc. and several other key industry players to form the Minerals for National Automotive Competitiveness Collaboration (MINAC). The initiative is designed to advance domestic sourcing and processing of critical minerals essential for electric vehicle (EV) production in North America.
As reported by the companies involved, founding MINAC members also include Alaska Energy Metals, Graphite One, and Electric Metals. The collaboration aims to bridge the gap between the mining and automotive sectors by fostering closer cooperation, accelerating the qualification of U.S.-produced materials, and facilitating offtake agreements to secure domestic mineral supplies.
According to RecycLiCo’s official statement, the alliance will specifically target key goals such as:
Advance domestic mineral production through the completion of offtake agreements for American critical minerals for use in American automobiles;
Identify and resolve barriers, and accelerate commercialization and customer adoption;
Improve coordination between the mining and automotive sectors; and
Support the qualification and procurement of domestically produced materials by American automakers and Tier 1 suppliers.
RecycLiCo’s advanced hydrometallurgical technology, which allows for the efficient recovery of high-purity battery materials from end-of-life batteries, manufacturing waste, and raw ores, is viewed as a strategic asset in supporting North American self-sufficiency in critical minerals. According to industry analysts, the company’s process could significantly reduce reliance on overseas supply chains, particularly amid rising geopolitical tensions and policy shifts favoring domestic production.
“The historic realignment of the global trading environment, together with governmental initiatives fostering reliance on domestic sources, has highlighted the need for the efficient recovery and refinement of critical minerals,” said Richard Sadowsky, CEO of RecycLiCo. “This collaboration with Lucid and our other MINAC partners is a direct response to that need and will help us to validate and scale our technology and work closely with industry leaders.”
According to RecycLiCo, to mark the formal launch of the initiative, a roundtable event is being held in Washington, D.C., featuring key stakeholders including Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs, Alaska Senator Dan Sullivan, and U.S. Representatives Nick Begich (AK) and Andy Biggs (AZ). The gathering underscores growing bipartisan interest in strengthening America’s competitiveness in electric vehicle manufacturing and clean energy technologies.
