Plastipak has opened a new PET Material Center in Verbania, Italy, after investing more than €25 million. The facility will produce pakPET™ Single Pellet Solution, a PET resin containing 30% recycled material for use in plastic packaging manufacturing.
The center officially opened on October 14, 2026, with Plastipak CEO Ed Morgan and Italian government representatives attending the ceremony.
With this addition, Plastipak has expanded its recycling and material production operations in Europe. The company already operates five recycling facilities worldwide, along with resin production, preform manufacturing, and packaging.
At Verbania, production will focus on pakPET™ Single Pellet Solution, which combines virgin PET and recycled material in a single pellet. This format allows manufacturers to use resin with recycled content without having to blend separate materials themselves. Plastipak says the product is designed to work with existing PET processing equipment while maintaining consistent packaging quality.
Containing 30% recycled content, the resin is intended for a range of applications, including food and beverage containers, home and personal care packaging, pharmaceutical packaging and thermoformed products. Plastipak also reports that the material has post-consumer feedstock traceability certified under EN 15343 and is approved for food-contact applications where applicable.
For packaging manufacturers, incorporating recycled plastic can involve balancing recycled-content targets with production requirements and finished-product quality. By supplying recycled-content resin in a ready-to-use format, Plastipak is offering another option for companies looking to introduce recycled PET into their existing manufacturing processes.
Opening the Verbania center also gives Plastipak greater control over the path from recycled plastic to packaging-grade material. Rather than focusing solely on collecting and processing waste, the company is extending its operations further into the production of materials that can be used to manufacture new packaging.
