The Battery Network Joins SWANA as Corporate Partner to Advance Battery Safety

According to SWANA reports, The Battery Network has joined the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) as a corporate partner, with both organizations working together to strengthen battery safety awareness, collection practices and recycling education across the waste and resource management industry.
The cooperation comes as the increasing use of lithium-ion batteries creates new challenges for waste handling and recycling systems. When improperly discarded batteries enter household waste or curbside recycling streams, they may be damaged during collection and processing, increasing the risk of fires at recycling facilities and posing safety concerns for workers and communities.
Through the partnership, The Battery Network will provide SWANA members with resources related to battery collection, safety procedures and compliance practices. The two organizations will also collaborate on educational initiatives to help waste professionals and the public better understand responsible battery management and proper recycling methods.
By combining SWANA’s connection with waste and resource management professionals and The Battery Network’s experience in battery collection and recovery, the partnership aims to provide more practical support for improving battery management systems. The focus will include sharing safety knowledge, expanding access to relevant resources and encouraging more effective battery collection pathways.
SWANA Acting CEO Carolyn F. Muller highlighted lithium-ion battery fire prevention as an important priority for the waste industry. She noted that The Battery Network’s experience and established collection network can contribute to solutions designed to better protect workers, facilities, equipment and communities.
Formerly known as Call2Recycle, The Battery Network has more than 30 years of experience in battery collection and recovery. The organization works with consumers, businesses, manufacturers, retailers and municipalities through collection programs, education initiatives, logistics support and material recovery services.
As battery-powered products continue to become more common, improving collection and recycling systems is becoming increasingly important for both safety and resource recovery. Through this partnership, SWANA and The Battery Network will continue supporting efforts to guide used batteries into appropriate recovery channels and promote safer recycling practices.
