Plastipak Packaging has introduced pakPET™ Single Pellet Solution, a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resin that combines virgin resin performance with built-in post-consumer recycled (PCR) content, offering manufacturers a simplified approach to increasing recycled content in packaging.

The new resin is designed to help packaging producers meet sustainability targets and evolving recycled-content requirements without adding complexity to existing manufacturing processes. By incorporating recycled material into a single ready-to-use pellet, the product eliminates the need to blend virgin and recycled PET during production.

The resin contains 30% post-consumer recycled content and is intended for a wide range of PET packaging applications, including beverage and food containers, home and personal care packaging, pharmaceutical packaging and thermoformed products.

According to Plastipak, the single-pellet formulation is compatible with existing PET processing equipment, allowing manufacturers to integrate recycled content without significant changes to production lines or qualification procedures.

Pedro Martins, Executive Managing Director for Europe, said the product was developed to help companies incorporate recycled content while maintaining packaging performance, processing efficiency and product consistency.

The company said the new resin offers consistent packaging performance, simplified processing, drop-in compatibility with existing PET operations and food-contact approval for applicable packaging applications. The product also features EN 15343-certified traceability for its post-consumer recycled feedstock.

pakPET™ Single Pellet Solution will be manufactured at Plastipak’s Verbania, Italy facility and is scheduled for commercial introduction in August 2026.

The launch expands Plastipak’s packaging and recycling portfolio, which spans recycled resin production, preform manufacturing and packaging solutions. The company operates five recycling facilities worldwide and processes more than 500 million pounds (approximately 249,500 metric tons) of post-consumer recycled resin each year.

The introduction comes as packaging manufacturers face increasing regulatory and customer demand for higher recycled-content packaging, particularly in Europe, where new packaging legislation is driving investment in recycled PET and traceable supply chains.
