Glencore Acquires 45% Stake in South Carolina Aluminum Recycling Plant Operated by Alumicore

Glencore has acquired a 45% equity stake in an aluminum recycling and remelting facility near Charleston, marking a deeper move into U.S. secondary metals infrastructure, according to its company report.
The remaining 55% stake will continue to be held and operated by Alumicore, which will retain operational control of the plant. Glencore previously provided funding support to the facility in exchange for marketing rights before converting that relationship into an ownership position.
The company said the deal strengthens its role in building a more resilient and sustainable domestic aluminum supply chain in the United States. It also highlighted its existing exposure to the sector through a 30% stake in Century Aluminum.
Alumicore operates an existing recycling facility in Monessen and is also developing a second advanced processing and melting plant in Pittsburgh. Together, the company’s assets are expected to reach more than 120,000 metric tons of annual aluminum recycling capacity.
The Charleston-area facility is positioned to support growing demand for recycled aluminum, particularly as manufacturers seek lower-carbon inputs and more localized supply chains.
Alumicore was founded in 2021 by Gabe Hudock, who previously built and led multiple recycling and metals businesses, including Alumisource before its acquisition by Sims Limited in 2021.
Both companies said the partnership will focus on advancing plant development, expanding capacity, and supporting long-term value creation for the U.S. aluminum sector and surrounding communities.
