Comstock Metals Begins 24/7 Operations at Nevada Solar Panel Recycling Facility

Comstock Inc. and its subsidiary Comstock Metals have begun continuous 24/7 operations at their solar panel recycling facility in Silver Springs, Nevada, marking a transition from initial production activities to around-the-clock processing.

The company said the facility’s Solar Panel Recycling Production system is now operating continuously following preparation and testing across four shift teams. Comstock Metals plans to ramp up production as customer volumes increase.

The Silver Springs facility processes end-of-life solar panels using a zero-landfill recycling model. Comstock said the operation is designed to provide utility-scale solar customers with high-volume processing and chain-of-custody documentation for recovered panels, supporting their end-of-life regulatory requirements.

The move to continuous operations comes as the installed base of solar panels continues to age. As more panels reach the end of their operating lives, the volume of material requiring collection, processing and recycling is expected to increase, putting pressure on existing recycling capacity.

Comstock said it also has additional storage capacity at facilities in Hanford, California, and Cambridge, Ohio, supporting its ability to handle additional end-of-life solar panel volumes. The company’s next focus is increasing throughput at its recycling platform following the transition to continuous production.

Comstock Metals President Fortunato Villamagna said the company’s transition to continuous operations followed coordinated preparation involving production supervisors, operating staff, suppliers, contractors, regulators and the Silver Springs community.
