Aperam Recycling to Establish Titanium Center of Excellence in New York

According to company reports, Aperam Recycling has announced plans to establish a Titanium Solids Center of Excellence in Frankfort, New York, U.S., as part of its strategy to expand recycled titanium processing capabilities for the aerospace and defense sectors. The new facility will operate under ELG Utica Alloys, which is transitioning to the Aperam Recycling brand ahead of its planned renaming to Aperam Recycling Advanced Metals in the second half of 2026.

The Frankfort facility will serve as a dedicated hub for processing high-performance recycled titanium materials, supporting demand from domestic U.S. customers and international markets. The center will work alongside Aperam Recycling’s existing Herkimer operations, creating a more integrated regional network through improved material flows, shared technical expertise and increased operational flexibility.

The project includes investment in proprietary automation technologies and productivity-focused infrastructure designed to improve logistics efficiency, shorten turnaround times and meet the strict quality requirements of aerospace and defense customers. The facility will combine advanced processing capabilities with specialized logistics to provide recycled titanium materials tailored to customer specifications.

Nick Corby, Chief Commercial Officer of Aperam Recycling Advanced Metals, said the investment represents an expansion of the company’s titanium recycling capabilities rather than a replacement of existing operations.

“This Center of Excellence is a powerful investment in our future that directly supports our ambition to deliver best-in-class products and services while positioning for growth,” Corby said. “Combining advanced automated processing and specialized logistics under one roof will allow us to deliver premium recycled titanium tailored to our customers’ specifications.”

The development comes as aerospace manufacturers continue to seek reliable sources of recycled titanium to support material security and sustainability objectives. Titanium is widely used in aircraft structures and components due to its strength, durability and lightweight properties, while recycled material can reduce dependence on primary production.

The Frankfort Titanium Solids Center of Excellence is scheduled to begin operations on January 1, 2027. Aperam Recycling expects the facility to create up to 50 new jobs while expanding its recycled metals network in North America.
