Canada’s single-use plastics ban, introduced in phases beginning in 2022, targets items widely identified as difficult to recycle and prone to leakage into the environment.

The funding round was led by Axeleo Capital’s Green Tech Industry fund, with backing from UI Investissement and Angelor, and participation from several regional and private investors.

The technology is the first major outcome of a strategic partnership announced in May 2024, when the two companies agreed to co-develop recycling and low-carbon solutions across the petrochemical value chain.

Founded in 1979, Easy Plastic Containers operates two manufacturing facilities near Toronto and has built a customer base centered on both custom and stock bottle formats.

BMW said the collaboration with PreZero is designed to create a commercially viable recycling model covering vehicles of all powertrain types, not only electric cars.
