RECOUP Provides Strategic Market and Policy Support for Enviroo’s £58 Million PET Recycling Facility

According to an announcement from the UK’s Recycling of Used Plastics (RECOUP), the non-profit organisation has played a pivotal role in supporting Enviroo’s development of a cutting-edge PET plastic recycling plant in the North West of England, offering critical market intelligence and policy insights that helped secure major investment.

It is understood that RECOUP worked closely with Enviroo to conduct a comprehensive validation of the PET recycling market, cross-checking third-party industry data, assessing market feasibility, and compiling detailed intelligence on waste management trends and recycling policies. This due diligence was instrumental in enabling Enviroo to secure £58 million in funding for the project.

Enviroo CEO Ahmed Detta was quoted as saying that RECOUP’s expertise provided “invaluable knowledge” during the funding process, allowing the company to demonstrate both the stability and growth potential of the PET recycling market, while navigating current policy and regulatory frameworks.

RECOUP CEO Stuart Foster noted that the collaboration highlighted “what’s possible when innovation is backed by evidence and industry collaboration,” adding that the facility would play a key role in advancing the UK’s plastics recycling capability, reducing waste, and supporting the transition towards a circular economy.

According to project details, the plant—scheduled to begin operations in 2027—will be located at Peel NRE’s £165 million Protos Plastic Park in Ince Marshes, near Ellesmere Port. Once operational, it will process up to 35,000 tonnes of PET plastics each year, turning them into high-quality, food-grade packaging materials.

Industry observers note that the facility is expected to make a significant contribution to the UK’s net-zero targets, enhance domestic recycling infrastructure, and create sustainable employment opportunities in the green economy.
