Logoplaste Reserves Future Supply of Avantium’s Releaf® to Accelerate Bio-Based High-Performance Packaging

According to reports from Avantium N.V., the company has entered a capacity reservation agreement with global packaging manufacturer Logoplaste, marking a significant expansion of their collaboration to scale plant-based, fully recyclable high-performance packaging.

Avantium revealed that the agreement grants Logoplaste secured access to future volumes of releaf®—its plant-based and recyclable PEF (polyethylene furanoate)—produced through licensed facilities using Avantium’s proprietary YXY® Technology. It is understood that this arrangement will help Logoplaste accelerate the development of next-generation packaging with advanced barrier properties for beverages, food, personal care, home care, and pharmaceutical applications. The two companies, reportedly long-term partners within the Bottle Collective consortium, are extending their work beyond fiber-based bottle innovation toward broader commercial applications aligned with Logoplaste’s core business.

Industry sources note that the releaf® material, supported by Avantium’s YXY® Technology, is positioned as a key enabler for circular and renewable packaging. Logoplaste’s participation in the Bottle Collective—an initiative backed by major consumer brands including Diageo, Opella (formerly Sanofi), and Haleon—has already contributed to progress in recyclable fiber-based packaging, and the new agreement is expected to further accelerate its innovation pipeline.

Paulo Correia, Chief Technology Officer at Logoplaste, stated that securing releaf® volumes “supports the rapid development of high-performance, sustainable packaging solutions,” reinforcing the company’s ambition to deliver circular packaging with strong functional performance. According to Avantium, growing interest from global brands has strengthened the market momentum for releaf®. Bineke Posthumus, Avantium’s Director of Business Development, said the agreement highlights releaf®’s role as “ a key material for next-generation, high-performance packaging.”

Analysts observe that the partnership reflects a heightened industry push toward renewable polymers as companies prepare for stricter sustainability regulations, including Europe’s upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) and increasing requirements for recycled content in multiple markets. It is expected that demand for plant-based PEF materials will continue to rise as brands look for low-carbon alternatives with stronger barrier performance and full recyclability.

The agreement, reportedly the latest milestone in the companies’ long-standing collaboration, is viewed as an important step toward commercializing circular packaging at scale by integrating renewable feedstocks with advanced material functionality.
