Eni and Seri Industrial Advance Battery Hub in Brindisi to Strengthen Europe’s Energy Storage

September 25, 2025

Eni Storage Systems, a joint venture established by Eni and Seri Industrial’s subsidiary FIB, has officially begun activities in Brindisi, southern Italy, focusing on the development of stationary lithium batteries. According to the companies’ joint statement, the initiative is part of Italy’s industrial transformation and reflects Europe’s broader efforts to expand clean energy solutions.

It is reported that the new venture plans to build a facility capable of producing more than 8 GWh per year of lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) batteries, using a water-based process designed to lower environmental impact. The project is currently in the engineering phase, with financial and regulatory reviews expected to conclude by the first quarter of 2026, before construction begins.

According to the announcement, the Brindisi site will also include production of cathode active materials and the assembly of complete Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Sources indicated that battery recycling will be added in the future, supporting a more circular use of raw materials.

Industry observers note that demand for stationary batteries in Europe is expected to rise significantly in the coming decade, driven by renewable integration targets, grid stability needs, and EU decarbonization policies. It is further reported that by linking the Brindisi project with Seri Industrial’s Teverola plant in Campania, the partners are targeting more than 10% of the European stationary battery market.

The project is described as part of Eni’s broader industrial transition strategy, which highlights sustainability alongside economic competitiveness. Analysts suggest that, if carried out as planned, the Brindisi hub could strengthen Europe’s domestic capacity in energy storage technologies.
