DHL Supply Chain has entered into a long-term partnership with Fortum Battery Recycling, a division of the Nordic energy group Fortum, to deliver specialized service logistics solutions for electric vehicle (EV) battery recycling, according to an official announcement. The agreement marks a strategic step by both companies toward fostering sustainable supply chains and preserving critical raw materials.

As reported, Fortum Battery Recycling is currently the only provider offering a comprehensive European solution that spans the entire battery recycling value chain. The company is recognized for its advanced technologies that recover essential materials such as lithium, cobalt, and nickel from used EV batteries, contributing significantly to the circular economy in electromobility.

Under the terms of the agreement, DHL Supply Chain will be responsible for a wide range of logistics services, including the safe transport, storage, and handling of used batteries, as well as ensuring timely delivery to Fortum’s recycling facilities. These logistics solutions are designed not only to support operational efficiency but also to uphold the highest standards in safety and environmental responsibility.

“Our collaboration with Fortum underscores our commitment to providing innovative logistics solutions to meet the growing demands of e-mobility,” said Hendrik Venter, CEO of DHL Supply Chain EMEA. He added that DHL’s expertise and global reach will help Fortum scale its recycling operations while maintaining rigorous safety and sustainability benchmarks.

According to Fortum, the collaboration with DHL Supply Chain plays a pivotal role in scaling up its sustainable battery recycling operations within Europe. “We are proud to be working with DHL Supply Chain to develop an efficient and sustainable logistics solution for the recycling of EV batteries,” stated Anssi Airas, Head of Business Line Battery at Fortum. “The cooperation with DHL is an essential building block for our mission to promote the circular economy and maximize resource conservation.”
