Closed Loop Partners Acquires Sutter Metals to Expand U.S. Metals Recycling Infrastructure

According to company reports, Closed Loop Partners, a New York-based investment firm focused on the circular economy, has acquired a majority interest in Sutter Metals through its private equity group, marking the firm’s entry into the metals and critical minerals circularity sector.
Headquartered in Tacoma, Washington, with additional operations in Centralia and Lacey, Sutter Metals is a founder-led regional operator specializing in the collection, sorting, and processing of metals for remanufacturing. Founded in 2009 as a used auto parts vendor, the company has expanded to provide comprehensive metals management solutions to local communities and national commercial clients.
Sutter Metals processes high-value metals from critical regional industries, including aerospace, automotive, and electronics, covering aluminum, brass, copper, and stainless steel, while also handling complementary materials such as aluminum cans, cardboard, and other recovered commodities. The company delivers clean, high-value feedstock to mills, foundries, and brokers, underpinned by strong industry relationships and operational expe rtise.
Closed Loop Partners’ investment will support Sutter Metals’ next growth phase, enabling a buy-and-build strategy and expansion of processing capabilities and geographic reach. The partnership comes amid rising US domestic demand for metals and critical mineral processors, driven by regulatory shifts and global supply chain pressures.
“Sutter Metals has established itself as an experienced and strategically located operator with strong customer relationships,” said Jackson Pei, Managing Director and Co-Head of Closed Loop Private Equity. “Their platform aligns with our vision to build resilient, circular supply chains across North America.”
“For decades, our team has built a trusted metals management platform serving manufacturers and communities,” said Chad Sutter, CEO of Sutter Metals. “Partnering with Closed Loop Partners allows us to accelerate our mission, expand our infrastructure, and strengthen domestic metals supply chains at a time when localized processing is critical.”
Chad Sutter will maintain significant equity ownership, ensuring alignment through the company’s next stage of growth. Sutter Metals’ leadership team will be supported by Closed Loop Partners’ ecosystem of operators with global metals recycling and circular economy expertise.
Daniel Phan, Managing Director and Co-Head of Closed Loop Private Equity, added: “We see significant opportunities to bolster circular metals processing and services across the value chain. Our investment marks a step forward in scaling platforms fundamental to the circular economy.”
Through the broader Closed Loop Partners platform, including an investment firm, innovation firm, and operating group, Sutter Metals gains access to expertise in materials recovery, recycling technologies, and downstream market development, supported by a network of more than 50 corporate partners.
