Ace Green Recycling and Enecell Partner to Boost Battery Recycling in Australia

June 19, 2025

According to an official announcement from Ace Green Recycling, the U.S.-based sustainable battery recycling technology company has entered into a strategic collaboration with The Owens Group (WA) Pty Ltd, known as Enecell, one of Australia’s leading lead battery recyclers. The agreement aims to accelerate the development of environmentally responsible battery recycling solutions across the country.

Under the terms of the deal, Ace has secured a 10-year master offtake agreement, granting it exclusive rights to purchase 100% of the recycled lead materials processed at Enecell’s Perth-based recycling facility. According to Ace, the recycled lead will be marketed to its global network of industrial and manufacturing customers. The agreement also extends to any future upgrades at Enecell’s site, including potential additions such as lead refining, alloying, and lithium battery recycling capabilities.

Enecell’s existing facility reportedly processes over 33 million pounds of intermediary recycled lead products annually, and the two companies are also exploring opportunities to deploy Ace’s proprietary GREENLEAD® technology at the site. The technology is a fully electric, zero Scope 1 emissions process designed to replace traditional smelting. Discussions are also underway to introduce Ace’s LithiumFirst™ technology, aimed at commercial-scale lithium battery recycling.

According to Ace’s CEO and Co-founder Nishchay Chadha, the partnership marks the company’s expansion into the Australian market—a region where tightening environmental regulations are phasing out conventional smelting operations. “Australia, similar to the U.S., has been implementing strict regulations for smelting lead and has shut down some smelters that do not meet such regulations, which, we believe, strategically positions Ace and Enecell to help meet the demand for lead by delivering a more sustainable recycling solution,” Chadha noted. “We believe that Australia’s position as the world’s top lithium producer presents significant long-term opportunities for lithium battery recycling in this market.”

The partnership also aligns with Ace’s capital-efficient growth strategy, providing the company with a reliable source of battery materials while minimizing reliance on raw material imports. The agreement includes an optional clause allowing Ace to purchase the recycled material for its own use if end-customer demand arises, thus ensuring greater feedstock security for its projects.

Speaking on the collaboration, Enecell CEO and founder Paul Owens remarked, “Ace shares our vision in driving the growth of environmentally friendly solutions to support smart lead recycling. We have a profound appreciation for their innovative technology and immense customer network.”

Building on Australia’s status as the world’s leading producer of lithium ore, the Ace-Enecell partnership aims to explore opportunities for future lithium battery recycling capabilities. If successfully implemented, the collaboration could support Australia’s circular economy ambitions and potentially reduce long-term reliance on cross-border transport of hazardous battery waste.
