LME Approves First Licensed Warehouses in Hong Kong, Strengthening Its Global Metals Network

April 25, 2025

According to an official announcement from the London Metal Exchange (LME), the exchange has approved the first four LME-licensed warehouse facilities in Hong Kong. This development comes shortly after Hong Kong was confirmed as an LME delivery point on January 20, 2025.

As reported by the LME, the approval marks a significant step in establishing Hong Kong as a major logistics and metals trading hub in the region. LME CEO Matthew Chamberlain stated, “Being able to confirm the listing of our first warehouse facilities so swiftly after announcing Hong Kong as an LME delivery point is an exciting development for the LME.” He also expressed appreciation for the strong interest from warehouse companies, service providers, and metal owners seeking access to Hong Kong’s storage and logistics services.

Chamberlain added that Hong Kong is now strategically positioned to serve as a key global center for metal storage and trade, and as a vital gateway to Mainland China’s market. This move further reinforces Hong Kong’s role as an international financial and logistics hub.

According to details published on the LME’s official website, the following warehouse operators have received approval:

GKE Metal Logistics Pte Ltd (in partnership with China Resources Logistics (Yuen Fat Wharf & Godown) Limited) – licensed to store aluminium alloy, primary aluminium, copper, nickel, lead, tin, and zinc (two warehouse facilities approved).

Henry Diaper & Co. Ltd (partner: Sinotrans (HK) Warehousing Limited) – approved for aluminium alloy, lead, tin, and zinc.

PGS (East Asia) Pte Ltd (partner: SF Supply Chain (Hong Kong) Limited) – licensed for the same range of metals as GKE.

The LME noted that these facilities have passed inspection and comply with its transport and logistics criteria. They are expected to become operational and begin storing LME-warranted metals within three months.
