EGA Completes Acquisition of 80% Stake in Italian Aluminium Recycler Eco Green

According to company reports, Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) has completed the acquisition of an 80% stake in Italian aluminium recycling company Eco Green, expanding its recycling operations in Europe. The transaction received all required regulatory approvals and satisfied the closing conditions announced when EGA agreed to acquire the majority stake in April 2026.
Eco Green will be rebranded as EGA Eco Green, while the Scappini family will retain a minority stake and remain involved in the company’s management.
Founded in 1993, Eco Green operates two facilities in northeastern Italy and specializes in aluminium scrap collection, sorting and casting, as well as dross processing. The company distributes more than 70,000 tonnes of aluminium per year and has more than 60 customers across Europe, supported by a supplier network of more than 350 aluminium scrap companies.
At its Villafranca di Verona facility, Eco Green collects, sorts and distributes approximately 23,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap annually. Some of the material is supplied to its nearby Nogara di Verona plant, where the company produces more than 20,000 tonnes of secondary aluminium sows per year. The Nogara facility has a furnace with a nameplate capacity of 30,000 tonnes per year and also processes aluminium dross.
Eco Green is expanding the Nogara facility with an additional 20,000 tonnes per year of recycled aluminium capacity. The expansion is expected to be completed in December 2026.
The acquisition forms part of EGA’s broader strategy to expand its global aluminium recycling business. With the addition of Eco Green, EGA said its recycling capacity across the UAE, United States, Germany and Italy exceeds 400,000 tonnes per year, with another 200,000 tonnes under development.
Europe is a key market for EGA’s recycling expansion. The company supplies approximately 600,000 tonnes of primary aluminium to European industries each year and is building additional recycling capacity in the region.
In Germany, EGA acquired EGA Leichtmetall in 2024. The company is expanding the German operation with an additional 110,000 tonnes per year of scrap sorting capacity and 150,000 tonnes per year of melting and casting capacity.
In the United States, EGA acquired an 80% stake in EGA Spectro Alloys in 2024. The Minnesota-based recycler completed an expansion in July 2025, increasing its production capacity to 165,000 tonnes per year of recycled aluminium ingots and billets. A second expansion, adding 35,000 tonnes of billet capacity, is under development, with first hot metal production expected in 2027.
In the UAE, EGA is ramping up production at its Al Taweelah aluminium recycling plant, which has a capacity of 185,000 tonnes per year and is described by the company as the UAE’s largest aluminium recycling facility.
Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, Chief Executive Officer of EGA, said the acquisition expands the company’s access to Europe’s aluminium scrap market and strengthens its recycling operations on the continent.
Luca Scappini, Chief Executive Officer of Eco Green, said joining EGA would provide the Italian recycler with additional opportunities to expand its operations and serve customers across Europe.
