Arcwood Environmental Expands Regional Reach Through IRT Integration

September 01, 2025

Arcwood Environmental has taken another step in expanding its sustainable waste management network with the acquisition of Innovative Recycling Technologies (IRT), a hazardous waste services provider based in Lindenhurst, New York. According to the company’s announcement, the deal significantly extends Arcwood’s operational coverage across New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut while unlocking new efficiencies in hazardous and non-hazardous waste management.

“By welcoming Innovative Recycling Technologies into Arcwood, we’re reinforcing our role as the key to smarter waste solutions by delivering safe, sustainable services that protect both people and the planet,” said Ernie Walker, Arcwood Environmental’s Chief Executive Officer.

Founded in 1992, IRT has built a reputation for compliance, safety, and dependability in hazardous waste collection, lab packing, and field services, according to the company. Its team of OSHA 40-hour certified professionals serves a wide range of industries including healthcare, manufacturing, remediation firms, universities, and public agencies. The acquisition brings with it an experienced leadership team averaging three decades in the environmental services sector.

“IRT has the kind of operational strength and field-tested experience that fits seamlessly into how we work,” noted Chris Dlugolecki, Arcwood Environmental’s Senior Vice President of Service Delivery. “This partnership gives us a real opportunity to scale smarter, especially in soil logistics and field services, while staying grounded in safety and service reliability.”

Virginia Ewen, former president and co-owner of IRT, emphasized the cultural alignment between the two companies. “Joining forces with Arcwood allows us to build on the strong foundation we created at IRT,” she said. Meanwhile, John Dull, also a former co-owner now serving as Arcwood’s Long Island Area Manager, added: “Arcwood shares our values of responsiveness, reliability, and doing things the right way. Together, we’ll be able to deliver even greater service across the region.”

The acquisition reflects a broader consolidation trend in the U.S. waste management sector, where regional players are aligning to meet tightening environmental regulations and growing customer demand for integrated services. With stricter oversight from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and state regulators, companies are under pressure to provide transparent, compliant, and sustainable waste solutions. By expanding its Northeast footprint, Arcwood is positioning itself to capture greater market share while supporting clients in industries facing rising environmental compliance costs.

The move also aligns with increasing demand for specialized hazardous waste solutions, as hospitals, universities, and manufacturers seek partners who can handle complex disposal needs safely and reliably. Analysts suggest that acquisitions like this could accelerate Arcwood’s push toward building a nationwide network, providing clients with consistency across multiple regions.

With IRT’s proven expertise and Arcwood’s expanding resources, the acquisition marks a strategic milestone that strengthens service delivery and accelerates Arcwood’s vision of becoming a national leader in sustainable waste management.
